Good Neighbor Network at the Ladies of Endurance Event

Even though gray clouds hung in an overcast sky threatening to wash out the Ladies of Endurance Community Day on Saturday July 27th at the East Chattanooga Rec Center, it didn’t stop the residents from coming out to have a great time. Young girls covered in glitz and glam sashayed across the gravel lot to the tunes of the Tyner Marching Band, All Dogs and More handed out funnel cakes coated with powdered sugar, and small children shoved their faces with hot dogs. Everyone had a great time including the new cast of the Good Neighbor Network team- Andre, Katie, Christine, Mi-Mi, Dale and Gail (who I like to call Queen of Glass St. because she knows EVERYBODY!)

Buttons and brochures were spread across the table at the Glass House Collective booth as we informed the community about upcoming projects. The Good Neighbor Network made their introductions to residents who expressed their concerns about their neighborhood and gave suggestions for clever opportunities to make an impact. To the right of our booth, was Chattanooga Cares sharing knowledge on HIV/AIDS awareness and to the left, Dale played double duty championing his causes “Speak Out” and GED classes offered by Chattanooga State.

Several other vendors lined the grassy field including First Things First, United Way, and Mc Kamey passing out goodies to the residents. Virginia College set up chairs center stage inside the Rec Center donating haircuts and styles. The Meth Task Force brought their truck to display the negative consequences of drug use and the Firefighters from Station 4 parked their fire truck on the grounds to show their support for the community.

The wonderful women of the Ladies of Endurance hosted an awesome event full of festivities and even passed out free school supplies. The Glass House Collective and the Good Neighbor Network Team are grateful for being able to partner with them on a successful community event.
