MayDay commUNITY Festival on Memorial Day

The MayDay Community Festival will be this upcoming Monday, May 26th from 1pm- 6pm along Glass Street.  We will have an outdoor stage featuring live performances by Ogya World Music Band, Mawre & Co., and Rick Rushing & The Blues Strangers, NeShawn Bynum, SheSheDance, Zowie Boyd and Royal Envy Dance Team . Student showcases from Moving Forward Dance Studio include musical theater, creative dance and lyrical hiphop.

Kids’ activities include making maracas and masks, inflatable castle, and inflatable obstacle course. We will also have carnival games, board games and sports activities courtesy of the City’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Sustainability.

The Mayday commUNITY Festival is a part of a movement arts project established by local performing and teaching artist Rebekah Mawuko through a grant from Glass House Collective to benefit the residents of East Chattanooga.  The overall goals of the project are to expose the residents to the arts, to foster cultural awareness and appreciation for the world’s cultures through the arts, and to cultivate budding artistic talent in the community and help them to advance towards a career in the arts.  These three goals are imparted through hands-on workshops with local professional artists, opportunities for public performances, viewing local art venues and participating in local arts functions, and networking sessions with local professional artists.

Rebecka invites you to meet and greet your neighbors in the East Chattanooga community at this FREE family fun event.  Bring your grills, lawn chairs and have a picnic while enjoying live entertainment, arts and crafts, and other activities.  Make sure you walk around Glass Street, view all the murals, and visit local artist studios.
